This is a rare unusual grandfather clock.
This clock was made to commemorate the First great seal of the United States in 1782.
The dial has the great seal stamped into the brass.
Also the working lunar dial has the flag with the 13 stars for the first colonies.
Also on the moon dial says Annuit cœptis (Latin for “he approves the undertaking [lit. ‘things undertaken”] this was the original motto of the seal of the United States.
Eventually, the United States Congress passed an act (H. J. Resolution 396), adopting “In God We Trust” as the official motto in 1956.[6]
This is a triple chime German Urgos movement that plays Westminster, Whittington and Winchester. With shutoff option. Again unusual. Most of your grandfather clocks play St. Michael instead of the Winchester.
Brass weights and pendulum.
Case is finished in a light cherry.
