610-153 The John Goddard SOLD

  • John Goddard (1723-1785) was a celebrated cabinet maker from Newport. Rhode Island.
  • His designs are some of the best to come out of the American Federal Period, and he is credited with the creation of the block shell design featured on this clock. Examples of his work can be found in some of the finest private clock collections and public museums around the world.
  • Howard Miller has taken this classically popular design and scaled it to complement today’s homes.
  • The triple chime movement plays three different cathedral chimes Winchendon, Westminster and Whittington and has a fascinating moon phase dial that shows two popular scenes from the Currier & Ives era.
  • The shell motif and pediment rosettes are individually carved.
  • The case is crafted in Cherry Bordeaux.
